30

Grey day of rain

No 30 came from sitting forever in traffic waiting for the lights to change. This building sticks out in a gey dreary town.

Imbolc in a couple of days but due to the unusual cold weather the daffodils and snowdrops are struggling. Last year we had snowdrops at Yule!

Took the camera out with the 300mm lens on it as the hawk was in the field

but he had gone by the time I got out there, since I was out I just took loads of pictures. So bright and sunny the exposure was all over the place. I need to learn more technical stuff! This is the old fashioned pylon that feeds us our electricity, it crackles in the mist and sparks fly off it, I must work out how to photograph that!

Started getting the greenhouse ready for our first seeds of the year and C dug some more of the field veg plot over. Went through the seeds we have and made a list of some we need and placed the order today :) Bit annoyed I haven't planted any garlic yet, is it too late now I wonder?

Got a beautiful book http://www.paintingdreams.co.uk/luna_moon_hare.php

Amost finished the Booga Bag http://www.blacksheepbags.com/booga_bag.html, just slogging through the i-cord then I will be able to get the felting done.

all accessible books must be out at the same time despite my efforts to put away the ones he isn't looking at.

I'm a digger mama

Lots more digging up the veg plot today. I messed around with the macro 300m lens but I am taking so many pictures I'm finding it hard to find the time to go through them all. If I didn't need to sleep life would be a lot easier!

Chickens have names.

No photos today, I'm a bit annoyed I couldn't make a month without missing one but I'm sure the world will still turn :)
Today has been grey and dreary and my time was spent keeping the boys occupied.
The chickens have names, the Isa Brown is called Dotty (she must be ex battery as I've realised she has been debeaked) the others are still being really mean to her so she spends most of the time by herself, I'm hoping she joins the gang or I fear she will become dinner fr the fox.
The Black Rock is called Tallulah, the Blue Lace is called Queenie Lavender Blue and Beep is still Beep :)

Another one from work, there's a 1920's typewriter on the shelf and I always wonder who has used it and what exciting stories came tumbling from their fingertips.
I've just been messing about with the camera taking lots of shots of the same thing changing the aperture or shutter speed then reviewing them to compare, the joy of digital photography!
What I could do with though is a good book on it. I looked on Amazon but there are so many I'm not sure where to start. Any recommendations welcome!

The new girls & 14/365

When I let them out this morning there was some confusion and suprise but once the food was spotted they made a beeline for it.
After work I let them out of the run......... I have the naughtiest hens! Up the lane and down the lane, into the small veg patch, hiding under cars.......This is Beep and Queenie Violet Blue they had a peck at each other but Blue seems to be sticking close to Beep. and leading her into the veg patch! This is my 14/365 as all I've done today with the camera is take pictures of the chickens. This is the little Isa Brown who is definately bottom of the pecking order and has spent quite a bit of time on her own today :( but she is very human friendly and prefered to eat out of my hand than off the floor. No name yet, K can't decide, he wants another Beep 2 but I've said he should really chose another name.

This is the Black Rock, no name yet either.

New Chickens

Rarghh our Silkie was dead this morning so we went to get some new girls this afternoon as I can't have 1 chicken on her own, they generally need to flock to feel safe and content.
We got an isa Brown, a Black Rock and a Blue Lace. Settling in so far, we'll have to see how tomorrow goes as they establish their new pecking order.

My aloe vera plants have died as well, left them in the greenhouse but totally forgot about them in the -10 temps we had, I don't think they will recover unfortunately. Good news is those temps will have killed off some nasties in the soil.

Almost a Full Moon 10/365

and our last night of clear skies for a few days so I got outside at 11pm gone and it was fffffffffreezing. I used the telephoto lens and had to lean my arms on the top of the car, got covered in frost and nearly froze to the car. So despite the picture not truly being taken on the 10th I may use this one as 10, depends what happens later in the day. Now I've made it smaller the clouds aren't showing very well hmmm, oh well. Yup it's 23.11 so this is going to be 10.

On a more boring note I think we need a de-humidifier in this house, the living room walls are wet :(

Need to find one that is A rated, had a quick look on the internet this morning and found lots of good reviews for various brands but no energy rating info.

Trebah Gardens 8/365

8/365
Lovely walk today although it was a struggle trying to mamange toddler, baby, pram loaded with stuff, dog on lead AND a camera. Not much time to think about shots it was very much a case of point and shoot. I increased the ISO as some places were quite dim and slowed shutter speed to try and capture the water and ice .

7/365

Today's photo is a bit of a cheat, I was simply working out how to use the self timer!

I've been dying to try and capture our buzzards but they haven't been about for a few days. then today, of course, when I'm rushing around he (or she) is sitting in full view just begging for a photo!

Playing catch up with the photos

Photo 6/365

ISO 400
Shutter Speed 1/60
5.6

I did take a perfect paw print in the frosty car roof this morning but because of the position of the sun I cast a shadow over it so I didn't like the picture that much.

Photo Challenge 5/365

Now I have my lovely new DSLR I've decided to do the 365 day photo challenge. I've seen it mentioned on a couple of blogs and from what I can gather you just take a picture a day and see how you progress. This is perfect for me as I am trying to learn how to get the most out of the camera.

I will back date the previous pictures (I only decided to do this last night) but here is last nights effort.

Bumped up the ISO to 400 , auto flash and fiddled with the aperture I think lol

New Years Day

We went to see if we could spot the snowy owl today

no luck though so we carried on to Cape Cornwall where is was windy enough to almost topple K over, he didn't want to hold my hand though so I had to pretend I was wobbly and needed him to look after me!

Yule woolies finished a wee bit later than planned!

Almost time to plan the seeds and planting :)

I am trying to learn how to use the new camera and lenses. My photography course feels like it took place in the dark ages lol
